The founders of NSDOAF Janisue Rigel and Davena Rigel-Liepman met friends for lunch February 17, 2019.   One friend said “Let’s start an organization, Janisue & Davena would not support their plan.  Davena had wanted to honor the American farmer for 4 plus years - Janisue and Davena shared their idea of The American farmer, and everyone said yes.  That evening Janisue went into full steam to start a new society honoring the very deserving American farmer.

National Society Descendants of American Farmer (NSDOAF) a co-ed, non-political, tax exempt 501-C3 organization became more than a thought and March 5, 2019 became a wonderful reality.

The focus of the society is to honor the American farmer who farmed between July 4, 1776, and July 4, 1914. This large window makes it possible to honor the immigrants who came after the various wars to be remembered and honored by their descendants. The NSDOAF 501c3 charitable focus is agriculture/farming scholarships.

NSDOAF has given over $101,000 to college juniors and above who are majoring in an agriculture/farming program since 2019.  60% of the onetime fee is used for agricultural scholarships.

The third focus of NSDOAF is to honor current farmers with certificates of appreciation.

As a national organization, the Board members, representing all sections of the United States, meet using zoom.

Educational zoom webinars are open to all members. Each webinar offers an agricultural learning opportunity.  Past webinars are available on the NSDOAF web site. The use of zoom eliminates the need for a local structure for meetings.

The national board plans one in person meeting a year. This meeting is scheduled during the days prior to DAR’s Continental Congress in DC.

For our short form – use approved applications from most lineage societies and include proof of farmer such as a census or will.

In 2023, the NSDOAF Board opened the window to honoring and remembering the farmer’s wife. A supplemental can be submitted for the farmer’s wife if she is noted as his wife in the census. The Board realized the census may refer to her as a housekeeper, but a farmer’s wife was an integral part of a farm’s success.

The NSDOAF website serves as the information hub for members as well as prospective members.  Over 1500 people have chosen to join this national organization to honor their farmer ancestors, celebrate current farmers, and support future farmers. Consider honoring your farmer, celebrating current farmers, and supporting future farmers.

We love this society because we feel an extra kinship with our farmer ancestors. They gave their all working the lands getting the most they could out of every square inch of soil.

They were able to bring forth their best which has shown in our country. Our farmers were the essence of America and they are a huge part of making this land of plenty happen. They have never been recognized and they 100% deserve recognition.

Our ancestors would be grateful that we are helping others by giving scholarships to those who will be walking in their footsteps as future farmers. We know with these scholarships we will help make life better for these students and thus for our country.
